- Richmond, VA , 1952
Richmond, VA, 1952. Invitation to Miller & Rhoads Seventh Annual Book and Author Dinner, Sponsored by The Junior League of Richmond, May 2, 1952, 7 O'Clock, The Tea Room.~~The Junior League of Richmond was founded in 1926 by 59 young women committed to solving community problems. In the 1950s the organization grew quickly, focusing their efforts on the needs of Baby Boom children. ~~Miller & Rhoads department store (1885-1990) was at 501 E. Broad Street, now a hotel and condo complex. By 1952 it was a staple of downtown Richmond, and the Tea Room was a beloved cultural touchpoint for white Richmonders, featuring live music, fashion models, and Santa Claus.~~This 7"x5" invitation shows the program speakers and the menu. Slight scuff on back. Very good.~~Listed speakers include Edward Weeks, Fleur Cowles; Dumas Malone; Agnes Demille; Herbert Philbrick; and Agnes Sligh Turnbull.
