Vol 1 xii 435 + 458, Vol 2 432 + 472, incl. appendix and index. Quarter brown cloth over tan paper-backed boards. Some loss to cloth over spine; still bindings are firm. Most distinctive about these volumes is the early use of chromolithographed, pictorial labels on the spines, a publisher's improvisation with a new printing technology that did not persevere, as the process became more effectively applied in text illustration.
