The illustrated story of a day in the life of Little Black Sambo living in the jungle with his parents. Setting out on his own after breakfast Little Black Sambo encounters four tigers who he appeases by giving each one a piece of his clothing and apparel. During the squabble between the tigers Little Black Sambo retrieves all of his possessions and returns home for a supper with his parents. Very light wear along edges of binding and a very light smudge in the lower foredge corner of page one. Block lightly age-toned. The illustrated top cover of the box with light wear along edges. Both, cover and bottom of box lightly rubbed. "Helen Bannerman (1862-1946) occupies a strange place in the history of English language children's literature. Although she wrote and illustrated ten children's books, nine published in her lifetime, she was not particularly successful either critically or commercially with any of them except one. The one book she wrote that was a big success, was also the source of discomfort, even hostility, as it has always been the centerpiece of controversy.
