Full dark green polished calf by Tout and Sons. Spines in six compartments with raised bands, intricately tooled in gilt. Red leather lettering labels, Gilt rules on the boards, gilt dentelles, top edges gilt, marbled endpaper's. Volume three has some sunning to the upper board, hinges on all volumes neatly strengthened, else a near fine copy.


The plate numbering continues from the first series of 1837 and begins with number 18. Added plates are numbered thus: 24a, 30a, 35a, 36a, 37a, 43a, 46a and 54a. In addition, a note in Volume III (p. vii) explains that plates 73 and 74 were renumbered to 24a and 46a.


This, and the first series, are considered the cornerstone of British Egyptian Archaeology.
