The plate numbering continues from the first series of 1837 and begins with number 18. Added plates are numbered thus: 24a, 30a, 35a, 36a, 37a, 43a, 46a and 54a. In addition, a note in Volume III (p. vii) explains that plates 73 and 74 were renumbered to 24a and 46a.
This, and the first series, are considered the cornerstone of British Egyptian Archaeology.
