[Framed Copper Engraving] Linz

- Leipzig: Peter Schenk, 1702
Leipzig: Peter Schenk, 1702. A lovely very early eighteenth century copper engraving by Peter Schenk, a prolific German engraver who was active in Amsterdam but had relocated, apparently, to Leipzig, shortly before the production of this print. Visible, the print is 21 by 26 cm. With frame: 41 by 43 cm. Our copy is fairly clean. There are a few conspicuous fox marks in the sky area of the print, and a lighter, but larger, area of soiling by the mountain area -- the latter is more subtle and thus scarcely affects the image. The frame is a simple painted black wood, appropriate for the print within. The manila-colored matting comes off as rather clean. There is one small ink stain along the upper edge.
