Harwood (1939-2015) arose out of the London Beat scene in the early Sixties, editing a number of very short-lived journals. After developing a close friendship with John Ashbery, he would become perhaps the leading exponent of New York School poetics in the United Kingdom - in fact, his second book, Man With Blue Eyes (1966), was published in New York by Angel Hair Press and won that year's Frank O'Hara Prize.
