By Ball, Nicholas:
Boston. , 1895.. A presentation copy, with an ink stamp completed and inscribed by the author: "Hon. Robert Coit / With Compliments of / Nicholas Ball...May 20th 1895." This book contains a few extracts from the author's journal kept while working in the California gold mines. Of much interest is the itemized mining record, included within this work with a separate titlepage, which the author made while in California during 1850-51. Ball describes this gold mining record as "an unusually faithful account of the actual work done by the placer mines, and shows the exact cost and profit." A valuable California gold mining book, by a member of the Society of California Pioneers of New England. 38pp. Engraved portrait plus full-sheet woodcuts and in-text illustrations. Original gilt cloth. Some light foxing. Overall, just about very good. COWAN, p.30. HOWES B68. WHEAT GOLD RUSH 9. KURUTZ 32.
