A Legal Autograph Document Signed From Signer George Ross

GEORGE ROSS (1730-1779). A Declaration of Independence Signer from Delaware, Ross served as a kings attorney before switching sides. He did not join the Continental Congress by July 4, 1776 to vote on independence but signed the document in early August with the other Congressmen. He resigned due to poor health in 1777 and became a judge of admiralty.ADS. 1pg. April 25, 1761. Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. An autograph document signed Geo: Ross at the conclusion of a lengthy legal document. Ross wrote: I Appear for the above Deft & Confess Judgmnt. to the Pltff for One Hundred & fourteen pounds twelve shillings & four pence Debt besides Costs of Suit with release of Errors ~ by Spec Warrt To Hermn. A Cricks Esqr. Geo. Ross atty. pr. Deft. by Specl. Warrt. 25th. April 1761. The lawsuit was between Samuel Neave and John Bird over an unpaid debt of 114, and Neave claimed an additional 20 in damages for the prolonged refusal to received payment. The document is silked on the verso, minor stains at the folds and a chip at the bottom edge. It is professionally framed with a portrait and a descriptive plaque.
