Title translated from the French: "Memoirs on the origin of wars that have been working in Europe for fifty years". De Vauciennes was a French historian and diplomat. In these two volumes, he examined the causes and dynamics of European wars over the preceding half-century. First published in 1677 by Pierre Abouin in Paris. This edition used a fictitious publisher and place. Pierre Marteau, translated to Peter Hammer, was used by printers and publishers to avoid open identification on many controversial and political subjects from the 17th century onward.. The real publisher was most likely the Elzevir Press in Amsterdam, who coined the name "Pierre Marteau". 256pp. + tables, 293pp. + tables.
