New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1942. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Second printing. Fine in a lovely, near fine dustwrapper with some tanning on the rear panel. Novel about a working class neighborhood in Philadelphia. The jacket artist, John O'Hara Cosgrave, 2nd, would revisit this design eleven years later, when he created a similar jacket for James Baldwin's first book, *Go Tell It on the Mountain,* after Baldwin had rejected the publisher's proposed art. Presumably Cosgrave had to come up with something quick, and felt no hesitation in plagiarizing his own work. Very scarce in jacket. (Inventory #: 109313)
