The author had long been fascinated by the possibilities of introducing camels to the US and spent some time residing in Turkey and traveling through Egypt, Nubia, Arabia, Petraea and Syria. This was written while the Secretary of War was experimenting with camel introduction in the US. (Inventory #: 22487)
