1955. Brenner, Sydney (1927- ). The effects of ribonuclease and deoxyribonuclease on bacteriophage formation in protoplasts of Bacillus megaterium. Offprint from Biochimica et biophysica acta 18 (1955). 531-534pp. 244 x 167 mm. Without wrappers as issued. Small rust stains, otherwise fine. First Separate Edition. Brenner found that Dnase had no significant effect on the formation of bacteriophage by protoplasts of B. megaterium, while Rnase "suppresses bacterial growth almost completely. This action of Rnase is due to lysis of the protoplasts induced by the enzyme with consequent dispersion of the protoplast contents. It is concluded that protoplasts are not generally permeable to macromolecular substances such as enzymes" (p. 534).
