The Histoire was Broussais' first major book and one of his most influential, undergoing six French editions and translations into Spanish, Italian, and English in his lifetime. This set was presented to Broussais's admirer, Gaubert, who edited the 4-volume 'Cours de pathologie et de therapeutique generales'(1833-35) from the stenographic notes of Broussais's lectures at the University of Paris.
