The aim of the book was to provide medical advice for individuals too poor to consult a physician or pay for medicine (one wonders how they would acquire the book ?). The handbook is packed with cures and is fully indexed. It is also bound with a separate work that was apparently issued with the book. It is a copy of Baumler's treatise on a fever epidemic that overtook the Rhein valley in the winter of 1734. It provides for cures and methods of prevention. Absent from Blake & Wellcome.
