An work by the English polymath and associate of Priestley who found his way to America in the late 18th century. The book is his inaugural lecture at Carlisle College. Cooper provides a history of chemistry from the Greeks through Lavoisier with special attention to electro-chemistry, geology, phlogiston theory, and mineralogy. There are sections given over to glass making, plating and gilding, and other technologies of the period. There is an extensive appendix of notes. Rink #671; Cole #293.
