This book was quickly translated into several languages because of its importance. The book is particularly useful for its record of Eiffel's examination of the work of contemporaries on flight surfaces and his commentary on similar research work by others throughout Europe, e.g., early wind tunnel design that took place in Italy, Germany, Russia etc.. The book offers a detailed account of the new wind tunnel and laboratory constructed in 1909.
