Brush was an important contributor to Dana's System of Mineralogy, editor of the American Journal of Science, and long time head of the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale. The book offered here set the standard for the subject and still is very useful. The text is a well illustrated manual for using a blowpipe. The bulk of the book is made up of double page tables classifying minerals and providing specific inofrmtion as to color, crystallization, character, etc.. DAB III, 187-188.
