It ranges from the methods used for determining forged documents to the outfitting of archive offices and contains sections on various calendars, proper cataloging techniques for documents and papers of all kinds. This is supplemented by extensive appendices that contain aids to cataloging or provide useful information that is often required to be at hand, e.g., a correspondence between the Julian and Gregorian calendars; glossaries of medieval German and Latin. There is a section devoted to paleography etc.. The book is concerned almost exclusively with documents and papers of the medieval and early modern period.
