Though the brother of the more famous philosopher F W, August was nonetheless a highly regarded and important figure in the Romantic movement in German literature at the turn of the 19th century. He was co-editor of the most important German literary periodical of the pre - romantic period, a co - worker of Schiller, noted philologist and translator of an exceptional editon of Shakespeare, as well as being the consort of Mdme. de Stael. The work offered here is one of his poems set to music. Kosch, 2nd., III, 2485 / 86.
