For health reasons, he gave up preaching and became a writer of juvenile fiction. He was also the editor of a magazine called The Youth's Cabinet, published by his brother D. Austin Woodworth. Many of his works were published under the name Uncle Frank, including a series called Uncle Frank's Boy's and Girl's Library. According to 19th Century Juvenile Series, this series was first published by Phillips, Sampson & Co. in 1851. The Diving Bell was the second of six volumes (truncated) in this series. VERY SCARCE. 12mo. In modern rebinding, black leatherette with gilt title to spine. Title page says "tinted illustrations", but most appear black and white with light yellow background.
