by Jenkins, John
Cambridge: Printed for the Author, 1813. Second edition. Engraved title page and portrait frontispiece, plus 10 engraved plates. xlviii, 68, [4] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Original boards paper spine. Fine copy, with the bookplate of Essex Institute. Second edition. Engraved title page and portrait frontispiece, plus 10 engraved plates. xlviii, 68, [4] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Book I of Jenkin's work first appeared in Boston in 1791 as a small 32pp. pamphlet. It appears here in its greatly expanded form. The author's original plan to extend the set to seven volumes seems never to have materialized. Jenkins' system is an ingenious and radical departure from previous systems of instruction, and attempts to analyze the alphabet into 6 basic strokes of the pen.
