The first volume in this collection of witty and amusing pieces, containing poems, epigrams, quotes and letters from various sources, many of the authors are credited. Intended as a follower of "The New Foundling Hospital for Wit" which had appeared in 6 volumes and been finished the previous year. There were ultimately 4 volumes in this series published from 1785-1793. Among the contributions there are several pieces relating to Lunardi and his balloon ascensions and there is a "Bon mot of Dr. Johnson" on page 162, many of the pieces are political in nature. Almon was also editor of "The Remembrancer" NCBEL 2:405
