Laid down on larger colored sheet, some discoloration of larger sheet, folds, else very good. 2 1/4 pages. 1 vols. 12mo. Founder of Neurology in England. Asking after Youmans following his accident, noting that he had tried to reach Youmans when he was in England but found that he had left the day before. Writing that he had he no photograph of Clifford but was fortunately enough to find one for Youman's use. In 1878 Bastian had been appointed Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University College, London. He was the author of several works in his field and is recognized as the founder of neurology in England. He was also noted for his work on diseases of the brain. It was Bastian to whom the credit for proving the necessity of sterilization of medical instruments is given. Youmans was the founder of "Popular Science Monthly' and planned the "International Scientific Series," he was a noted lecturer on science and author of several works.
