Original Drawing by Orson Lowell. Orson Byron Lowell [1871-1956], son of landscape artist Milton Lowell, entered classes of the Chicago Art Institute at age 16, remaining there as a student and instructor until 1893 when he moved to New York and became a professional illustrator. In a long and successful career he worked for most of the top magazines, as well as illustrating a number of books. He became a member of the staff of the old Life magazine, where he was a prolific contributor. This is a good example of his bravura virtuosity with the pen. (Inventory #: 42220)
