Offprint from:: Genetics, vol. 22, 1937., 1937. 8vo. 76-86 pp. Tables. Printed wrappers; front cover extremities chipped, else fine. Ownership signature of Norman Horowitz. Beadle is one of the great figures in the history of modern genetics. These 27 offprints strongly represent his early and important work from the 30's & 40's, as well as his later publications, reaching as far as 1970. Included are a number of papers written with E. L. Tatum, with whom Beadle was awarded half of the 1958 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine (along with Joshua Lederberg) for their discovery that genes act by regulating definite chemical events. Several papers make studies through the use of the Neurospora strain which was so crucial to Beadle's success, and played a vital role in the development of genetics. Almost all of the papers contain the signature or rubber stamp of Norman Horowitz who was a colleague of Beadle at Caltech, and an early pioneer in genetics. WITH: BEADLE, E. L. TATUM, & David BONNER. "The Genetic Control of Biochemical Reactions in Neurospora: A Mutant Strain Requiring Isoleucine and Valine." Offprint from: Archives of Biochemistry, vol. 3, no. 1, 1943. 8vo. 71-91 pp. Tables. Printed wrappers. WITH: BEADLE, & TATUM. "Neurospora. II. Methods of Producing and Detecting Mutations Concerned with Nutritional Requirements." Offprint from: American Journal of Botany, vol. 32, no. 10, 1945. 4to. 678-686 pp. Tables. Printed wrappers; rubbed, spine taped. Very good. Full list available on request.
