1945. ("Nelson Algren") in black fountain pen ink on a US Government V-Mail lettersheet, "Somewhere in France", March 31, 1945. 8 1/2" x 11". With U.S. Army "Examiner Stamp". 1 page with A.P.O postal cancellation, April 2, 1945 and Covici's address on the verso. Very good (short tear). To Pvt Allan Covici ASN 16124028 29th Signal Co. A.P.O. 29 c/o U.S. Army Nelson Algren writes that Chris Rowland* had given him Covici's address, saying that he was probably also stationed in France, saying he would like to meet someone form "the fast international set." Algren goes on to comment on the French, and French wines. *There are numerous references to Chris Rowland and his brother Neal in Bettina Drew's biography of Algren. **Algren tried, but was unsuccessful in avoiding military service and he was drafted as a private. Serving mostly in the medical corps (see pages 157-169 in Drew).. Signed by Author(s). No Binding. Very Good.
