Ferrara Giuseppe Barbieri, (ca. 1750).. 4to. (7 x 5 inches). 68, [2] pp. Engraved frontispiece showing the richly ornamented arms of the bride and groom; woodcut title ornament, tailpieces and initials (2 tiny wormholes in last 3 leaves). Original floral Dutch-gilt wrappers in green and gold (partly oxidized). Attractive and rare collection of occasional verses, published to honor a marriage alliance between two prominent Mantuan and Ferrarese families. The 14 contributors include several members of the Arcadian Academy, including Carlo Frugoni, Fabrizio Paulucci and Guiliano Cassiano (a member of the Modena colony, called “dei Dissonanti”). An elaborate chariot or float commissioned by the groom from Milan is the inspiration for several poems. Pinto dates the pamphlet to 1751, from a manuscript note in the Ferrara copy. The collation is unusual: A16 B12 CS (CS blank). No copies are recorded in American libraries. Pinto, Nuptialia 1066 (listing Ferrara Biblioteca communale).
