"Dear Sir, Yours of the 30th reached by duly. I am sorry to say that the Publications of our Masstts Historical Society are held only for sale, or in exchange for Works which we do not possess already, & which may be important to our library. We have as many of the volumes which you name as our librarian thinks important. I send to the Georgic Library a couple of volumes of my own, as an earnest of my good will, + remain, Dear Sir, Yours, resp. + truly [signed] Robt. C. Winthrop. The volumes go by express paid. P.S. I am unable to supply the autographs you ask for." Speaker of the House 1838-1840; Massachusetts Senator; President of the Massachusetts Historical Society 1855-1885.. (Inventory #: 011732)
