BC) was the king of Lydia from 560/561 BC until his defeat by the Persians in about 547 BC. He was also known for minting gold and silver coins and required great wealth during his reign. Rear board detached but present, three-inch split along head of spine on front board. Front free endpaper detached but present with bibliographical note in 19th century hand, pulling to edges of that leaf. Marginal sunning to title page and last 2 leaves. Binding in poor, interior in very good condition.
