Leipzig: F. A. Brockhaus, 1879. First edition. Hardcover. g. 12mo. VIII, 314 pp. Three quarter cloth over paper covered boards. The Author, Charles Adolphe Wurtz (1817 - 1884) was a French chemist. He is perhaps best remembered by chemists for the Wurtz reaction, to form carbon-carbon bonds by reacting alkyl halides with sodium, and for his discoveries of ethylamine and ethylene glycol. This particular volume was the personal copy of Dr. Gustav Zeuner (1828 - 1907) who was a German physicist, engineer and epistemologist, considered the founder of technical thermodynamics and of the Dresden School of Thermodynamics, as indicated by stamp on front endpaper. Text is in German. Scuffing and age wear to boards. Minor yellowing to pages due to age. Some marginal pencil marks by Dr. Gustav Zeuner. Book is in good - very good condition.
