Illustrated with 4 tipped-in interleaved photographs in carbon of Jefferson by one of the most successful 19th-century New York photographers (truncated) Napoleon Sarony, as well as 13 in-text wood engravings by Darley, Hopin and others. The use of photographs for publicity purposes begain the mid 1860's. These are typical of carte-de-visite style portraits of actors that would have been offered for sale by theaters and stationers.
