London: Sampson Low, 1948. First Edition. First printing Very good- in tan cloth covered boards with blue text on the spine which has a slight crease and with the end sheets tanned. In a good unclipped and lightly soiled dust jacket with 1/4" deep chips from the corners of the spine area, a 1/4" deep chip from the upper inside corner of the front panel and wear to the fore corners of the panels. Warmly signed and inscribed by the author on the first free end page as follows: "Dear John - I hope | you'll find things to | like here | alec." and dated Sept. 6, 1949. 251 pages of text with drawings by Laurence Scarfe. A collection of various poems by numerous authors to include: Shakespeare, Milton, Byron, Shelley, Browning, Marlowe, Hardy, Robert Graves, Sassoon, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Evelyn Waugh, Dickens, W.
