1845. ALEXANDER, ARCHIBALD. Biographical Sketches of the Founder, and Principal Alumni of the Log College. Together with an Account of the Revivals of Religion under their Ministry. Princeton, 1845. 369 p. Rebound in modern buckram. First edition. The so-called "Log College" was a school begun about 1726 at Neshaminy, Pennsylvania, by the Rev. William Tennent, Senior. Its purpose was to instruct candidates for the Presbyterian ministry. In addition to Tennent's own sons, the school also educated Samuel and John Blair, Samuel Finley, William Robinson, John Rowland, Charles Beatty, Charles McKnight, and others, many of whom played a conspicuous part in the Great Awakening. The school went out of existence in 1746 with the death of William Tennent and the founding of the College of New Jersey. See Felcone, New Jersey Books, 1694-1900, 19, for additional information.
