First editi Being the first edition of Thompson's first publication. The same year Derby and Jackson of New York had ready for publication his travel sketches, Across the Atlantic (1856), but the whole edition, save one copy, was destroyed by fire. The present work contains Thompson's ``Patriotism,'' which is mentione in Davidson's Living Writers of the South. The Oration is by Beverley R. Wellford, Jr. a lawyer who practiced and lived in Fredericksburg, and was ju of the seventh judicial circuit of Virginia. Light foxing on last leaf, else very good.
