By White, William Allen
New York: Macmillan, 1924. Hardcover. Very Good. Covers scuffed. Extremities rubbed. Name on endpaper. No Jacket. INSCRIBED to Doxey Wilkerson by White on the half-title and also SIGNED by the compiler. Laid in is a Typed Note, Signed, to Wilkerson from White thanking Wilkerson for sending some propaganda material for the high school, college campaign.Wilkerson, an African American leftist was then a Senior at the University of Kansas and co-editor of The Dove, a student publication. Wilkerson had probably sent material about KU for Allen's use in that campaign but the use of the propaganda term intrigues, perhaps it reminds us that Wilkerson was a member to the American Communist Party from 1943 to 1957, serving as a columnist for The Daily Worker for at least a few years and as Director of Curriculum at the Jefferson School of Social Science for about a decade.
