Barbier attributes it to a "professor of philosophy" named Robert, but Cioranescu and most other sources attribute it to the French priest Gérard Sutaine (1718- ). Overall very good, clean and fresh throughout This work is divided into three parts. The first, which occupies more than half of the volume, presents the author's plan for young people's studies, noting the subjects to be covered, the qualities required of a master, and the authorities on which the plan is based. The second part consists of Duguet's plan of classical studies, with a catalogue of the historians and other authors cited, while the third part contains a dissertation on the nature of education.
