New York: Macmillan, 1961. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition. "Not for Resale" stamped on the front fly, else fine in fine dustwrapper with a tear at the bottom edge of the spine. A novel about two young people who find love and understanding in a mental institution, and basis for the 1962 low budget cult favorite film *David and Lisa* directed by Frank Perry and featuring Keir Dullea, Janet Margolin, and Howard Da Silva as their sympathetic doctor. Both the director and his wife, screenwriter Eleanor Perry, were nominated for Academy Awards. A novel by a doctor about mentally ill youth, this book was neither fish not fowl, and the first edition was not effectively marketed, resulting in this being a very uncommon book.
