A Jesuit mystic who joined the Society after emigrating from Germany Nieremberg was one of the most eloquent mystical writers (see Peers II, 310 ) in post - Carmelite Spain. The first edition of the devotional works offered here appeared in Madrid in 1630 but were reprinted throughout the colonial empire of Spain. There are previous Mexican printings of portions of the books under variant titles (see Palau) but apparently none of the complete text until this little known 1814 -15 printing (remarkably, absent from Sommervogel). Medina, Mexico, VIII, # 10953 & 11072; Palau XI, # 190634 [incorrect pagination]. (Inventory #: 10048)
