Blindstamped Cloth
1855 · London
by Combe, William
London: Rudolph Ackermann, 1855. Ninth Edition. Blindstamped Cloth. Very Good. Rowlandson, Thomas. 4to. 77 handcolored plates, plus three additional extra title page color illustrations. This is one of Rowlandson's most famous set of illustrations, and Combe's light satiric verse was a perennial favorite into the twentieth century, when its sort of fluent rhyming fell out of favor. Syntax has to be one of the great imaginative creations of the English language literature, though. He is modeled on picaresque figures such as Don Quixote. Wear to upper spine tips, all volumes. Generally clean interiors. A few loose preliminaries in vol 3, but still holding. A few pages are brittle yet clean. Overall, VG. (Inventory #: 000198)
