Virginia Murphy wrote these plaintive recollections some forty-five years following the Donner tragedy. Her father was James Reed, an important figure in the event. This copy includes the laid-in folding map showing the overland route of the Donner Party, as well as the folder of four enlarged Remington prints that were issued separately with this book. The map and extra prints are most-often lacking. This title was the first book to bear the Lewis Osborne imprint. It reproduces all the original illustrations as published in the first edition, including those by Remington, Charles Nahl, et al. [Mintz: 340].. (Inventory #: 6793)
