From the library of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., with his bookplate on the front paste-down and a laid-in note from Allen's assistant, "Mr. Fairbanks, Mr. Allen is just about to begin shooting another picture and is very busy now. May we let you know when there's a break in his schedule for drinks? Enclosed are your books, he was happy to sign them for you." We're unsure whether Fairbanks and Allen ever managed to schedule a meeting, but it's fun to imagine the debonair and swashbuckling Fairbanks alongside the comparably more timid and analytic Allen. Both are very different icons of American cinema, and both are notorious ladies' men.
