The biographer in the DNB remarks that the author had a natural gift - coupled to extreme patience - for the divination of texts. This no doubt was an asset when he undertook his translation of the Bible (from the Greek). The work offered here is based on Young and Champollion but is heretical in some of its interpretations. Still, an early and valuable work in Egyptology. DNB XVII, 1363 - `65.
