An orig. 16th century ink drawing on a notebook leaf that meas. appx. 6.25 x 8.5 inches. It is a rendering in light brown ink of an elaborate classic Roman style torchiere. The verso of the leaf has what appears to be chariots and shields of various kinds ( the old paper repair goes right through these renderings ). The torchiere is a strikingly elaborate concotion that is similar to those in volume four of Carlo Antonini's, Manuale di vari Ornamenti, [ IV : Candelabri ... Antiche ], Rome, 1781 - see plate # 17. The artist of this rendering is unkown. See Antonini, v. 4.
