This is the report of the Fiftieth Anniversary Commission, of the Battle of Gettysburg, of Indiana pursuant to the provisions of a act of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, passed March 14, 1913. Contains rosters of the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia, and a brief history of each of the regiments from Indiana that participated in the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863. A battle force of 172,00 men and 634 cannons under the leadership of Generals Lee and Meade met "by chance" at Gettysburg, a town of 2400 people. At the conclusion of the thrre-day encounter, there were 51,00 casualties, 5000 dead horses, and 509 tons of ammunition expended.
