Independence, Missouri: The Artist, 1950. Twelve pen-and-ink drawings, each 5 3/4" x 8 3/4" in dimensions. They are mounted in a loose-leaf album using photographic corner inserts. Each is signed in the drawing with "RBL". These are exquisite precise drawings, all with Negro characters. One depicts a raft tied to a tree; another of four women dancing; several with workers in the fields with birds overhead; a Black woman with a dream-like vision of a white woman in long gown; a woman and her baby in a log cabin; a Black woman hanging from a wall by a rope at her wrist; and others. All are depicted with clothing of the plantation. We know little of the artist. Roena Frances Brown was born in Kiowa City, Kansas on 3 December 1917, was married to Paul M. Landers in Columbia, SC on 21 October 1944. A very poignant portfolio of fine illustrations.. Loose-leaf Album.. Minor Wear Only to Covers.. (Inventory #: 011679)
