Horae Lyricae, Poems Chiefly of the Lyric Kind.
1793. · Elizabethtown (New Jersey).
by Watts, Isaac
12mo contemporary sheep, 219 pp. Binding shows some wear, and top hinge is a little weak. Lacks front endpaper, hole in rear endpaper. Some foxing and soiling, and early owner’s ink inscriptions on back of title and rear endpapers; otherwise very good. Isaac Watt (1674-1748) was regarded as the “father of the English hymn.” While he was reported to have a somewhat grotesque appearance, he was a superb writer and managed to churn out almost 700 hymns. This work has been reprinted many times, but a New Jersey imprint is somewhat rare. Evans 26439. (Inventory #: 100580)
