Timothy Flint (1780-1840) was born in Massachusetts, and was a pastor, missionary and author. He even managed to graduate from Harvard in 1800. After doing some missionary work around the Midwest, and even trying his hand at farming, he returned to Massachusetts in 1825 because of illness. He would publish this book in 1826, and go on to write several other works, including an excellent book on Daniel Boone.
