From Introduction: The accurate identification of seeds has always been problematical and difficult, but not entirely impossible. Seeds should not be considered entirely featureless, for there are often many reliable differences in their morphology and anatomy. Furthermore, seed characters are highly stable and conservative and therefore have considerable diagnostic value. Many seeds have easily recognizable familiar characteristics. The problem of positive identification becomes more acute, however, at generic and species levels. The need for accurate seed identification is aposite to many branches and fields of the biological sciences, e.g. agriculture, agronomy, biochemistry, forestry, genetics, pharmacognosy, plant systematics, seed analysis, wildlife biology, and others...
