Frontispiece protected with a captioned tissue-guard. Remarkable novel taking place in the shadow of the Catholic mission of San Juan Capistrano. When the Mission was founded in 1776, the region was populated by the Acjachemen band of Native Americans, called Juaneños by the Spanish. The mission was named after the Franciscan saint Giovanni da Capistrano (1386-1456). This work is illustrated with 3 photogravures, each protected with a captioned tissue-guard. Moderate rubbing along edges. Offsetting on endpapers. Front hinge slightly starting. Previous owner's blind-stamped on title page. Title page slightly creased. Binding in overall good, interior in good+ condition.
