Winner of the Prix Goncourt, one of France's highest literary awards, making Maran the first black author to win that honor. Of a total of 1500 copies SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page, this copy is not numbered (in place of the number is written in ink "Office Copy") and bears the Club's blindstamp stating it is one of 15 presentation copies.
